Is it just me or has office attire gotten a tad laid back over the years? Perhaps this is my perception since I’ve been out of the traditional “office life” for a bit. But then again, I was always in a creative environment and those tend to be more casual than other fields. Regardless of that, I think it’s safe to say that there is at least one day of the week where “business casual” (usually a Friday) is allowed. But how do you master that chic casual office look?
First, I think it’s important to know precisely what your style is. Knowing this will make it so much easier to define your office look. There are few staples you should have in your closet as well that will go with literally anything and that you can wear countless ways. These include a blazer, heels, fitted jeans (or leggings), flats, and a white button down.
My favorite chic office look entails skinny jeans, a graphic tee, blazer, and heels or flats. And when I say flats I’m including sneakers and cute oxfords in there too because they add some pizazz to any outfit. Like this outfit…
You have to find a balance so that you’re overall outfit doesn’t fall into any singular category. Too casual and you might come across a bit sloppy or unprofessional, like sweatpants, sneakers, and t-shirt = NO NO NO! I’m exaggerating here (not really, I worked with people that came in to work like this) but I’m trying to make a point. If you go casual on top make then sure your footwear makes up for it and vice versa. BALANCE yall!!
But let’s be real, we just want to be comfortable right? One trend that I wish was around when I had to follow a strict office dress code (don’t miss it!) are yoga dress pants.
Hope my tips give you some ideas for killing that laid back work vibe!
